    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 33-year-old boasts over 300 Premier League appearances across spells with Tottenham, Brentford and United, and also enjoyed stints at Ajax and Inter. He also remains Denmark’s most capped player, with 144 international appearances and 46 goals to his name. Wolfsburg see Eriksen’s arrival as a major coup, adding experience, creativity and leadership to their midfield. The Dane’s extensive Champions League pedigree, combined with his international standing, will be vital as the German club aim to push for European qualification.

The ex-Tottenham midfielder's journey carries even greater weight after Euro 2020, where he suffered a cardiac arrest before making a remarkable comeback in 2022 to re-establish himself as a key figure for Denmark.

  • WHAT ERIKSEN SAID

Eriksen opened up about his decision to join Wolfsburg, stressing the appeal of the project and the familiar faces in the squad: “For me, Wolfsburg is my first stop in the Bundesliga – I'm really looking forward to this new adventure. I'm convinced that together we can make a difference in Wolfsburg. The discussions with the management were very good. I immediately sensed that Paul Simonis had a clear idea for the team and also for me. The fact that the squad includes many familiar faces from the Danish national team makes VfL particularly attractive to me.”
